CHAPTER 11

Chris knocked on Andrew’s home office door, holding his new phone. “Guess what? Problem solved.”

Andrew looked up from his laptop, chuckling. “Now let’s work on the next problem you’ve got. Gravity.”

“What do you mean?” Chris asked, tucking his new phone away without telling Andrew that he’d already been swapping text messages with Cassidy. He felt giddy enough without it.

“I mean that ever since you got back from riding the horses with Cassidy, you’ve been floating,” Andrew said with a smirk. “And the way you looked when you introduced her to us? Your mouth was practically cramping you were smiling so hard.”

Chris shrugged; it was true. “And?”

“And I’m happy for you … but I need you to get your head in the game,” Andrew said. “I’ve got a business issue I need your help with.”

Chris nodded, coming fully into the office and giving Andrew an even look. “What’s going on?”

“The download charts.” Andrew turned his laptop around. “Sky’s plateaued, and with the next game being at least six months to a year away, we’re in danger of losing our foothold.”

Chris nodded, seeing the download ranking charts. Sky had never been the number one download on the various app stores but had consistently been in the top ten for most of its release life. “How’s the in-game purchases?”

“Still strong; we’re making profit, but if this download trend continues, the market could move on before we’re able to land our next product,” Andrew said. “Now how’s the coding department looking?”

“Truth?” Chris asked, and Andrew nodded. “If you’re asking if we can speed up the development of the next game, you’re dreaming. I mean, it could happen, but we’d be dropping quality and be scrambling to patch bugs left and right for three months post-release.”

“Not the quality I want us to be known for,” Andrew growled, and Chris nodded in agreement. His brother might not have been a computer nerd, but they could agree on one thing. They put out a quality product. “Which is why I had another idea. An update patch for Sky Adventures. You told me once you had storylines plotted out for years, right?”

“Right, but a lot of that I incorporated into the next game,” Chris said. “We can’t gut Phantom of the Kingdom for an online update.”

“No, but I know there’s stuff you cut out of Phantom because it didn’t fit the overall narrative. Why not take some of that and make it into an update for Sky?” Andrew asked. “You can meld the storytelling, right?”

“Of course … it’ll be the coding that’ll take the time,” Chris admitted. “Even if I’ve got templates on the servers, that’s a lot of work to do.”

Andrew drummed his fingers on the desk and nodded. “What do you need?”

“What’s my timeline?”

“End of the month? Six weeks?” Andrew asked, and Chris’s mind started spinning. A gigabyte of updates … four to six weeks.

Well, there was the Treasure of Argon storyline he’d considered before dropping the idea because of the name. But if they
